This is hands-on workshop where you will experience the power of a classroom discussion circle for yourself! Learn why secondary students and their teachers said utilizing discussion circles in their classrooms made students feel safe, seen, and heard; increased classroom engagement, communication, and connection; promoted academic and social-emotional learning; and were FUN! Participants will experience how discussion circles can be used proactively as an effective trauma-informed instructional strategy in any classroom, as well as experiencing how arts-based instructional practices and student reflection pair well with discussion circles. This session is based on cutting-edge educational research regarding discussion circles as a trauma-informed instructional strategy published in 2026.
