Across the country, educators and workforce leaders agree that young people need stronger pathways from high school to meaningful in-demand career opportunities. Yet schools and programs often struggle to move beyond classroom exposure experiences like career-speakers. 

We ask: How can we design sustained opportunities for students to build skills through real-world experiences with industry partners that expand networks, promote durable skills, and create pathways to careers of the future? 

This interactive workshop introduces an evidence-based approach developed at The Possible Zone, where high school students collaborate with industry professionals to tackle authentic challenges, build STEAM and durable skills, and engage in projects and internships aligned with high-demand fields.

Participants will explore how to design learning experiences that integrate project-based learning, high-value employer partnerships, and emerging technologies - including AI tools - into everyday instruction and assessment of competencies. Through examples from TPZ and guided design activities, participants will identify ways to connect students with industry and community partners while strengthening engagement and workforce readiness.

Participants will explore successes and challenges, learn from concrete examples, discuss strategies to build employer partnerships, and reflect on real-world projects that link competency-based, career-connected learning to future pathways.
