Speaker Bio
As the fifth president of Claremont McKenna College (CMC) in his thirteenth and final year, Hiram Chodosh is widely recognized for his innovations and accomplishments in both institutional justice reform and higher education. An expert in comparative and international law and recipient of the Ghandi Peace Award in 2011, Chodosh has helped lead many large national reform projects in Asia and the Middle East. Under his presidential leadership, CMC has surmounted major challenges facing higher education through many successful initiatives. The Student Imperative, the Soll Center for Student Opportunity, the Kravis Opportunity Fund, and many other programs have achieved dramatic results in access and affordability, including low debt and one of the highest returns on value in higher education. The launch of the Kravis Department of Integrated Sciences and its iconic home, the Robert Day Sciences Center, provides a revolutionary approach to undergraduate science education. The Open Academy drives the College’s top marks for its commitment to free expression (#1, FIRE College Free Speech Rankings), viewpoint diversity (#1, City Journal College Rankings), and constructive dialogue (#2 in politically most active student body, Princeton Review). An integrated student life program also draws national recognition for student satisfaction and its strong sense of community (#1 friendliest student body, Princeton Review, #6 overall, The Wall Street Journal/College Pulse 2026 Best Colleges). Supporting a top-ten NCAA Division III athletics program, the campus footprint has doubled through the development of the Roberts Campus and its new Sports Bowl—all supported by The Campaign for Responsible Leadership and the record-breaking $1.1B fundraising effort supported by alumni, parents, students, and friends of the College.
