Calvin Williams is the Senior Advisor for social impact to the award winning artist and activist, Common. With more than 20 years of experience advancing social impact at the intersections of creative media, education, philanthropy, public policy, and advocacy – Calvin’s portfolio spans public health equity, racial justice campaigns, and leadership development for young people and communities of color. In his role as Senior Advisor, Calvin guides his civic engagement and narrative-change work, including FREE TO DREAM™ and Rebirth of Sound, a healing-centered music production initiative that uplifts the creativity and humanity of incarcerated musicians. A longtime community builder and civic education practitioner, Calvin brings a distinctive blend of classroom experience, cultural strategy, and movement leadership to his work building more just, joyful, and liberated futures. He holds a Masters in Public Administration from CUNY Baruch as a National Urban Fellow. He lives in Oakland with his wife Leila and son Malik.
